The Unicel C-5601 is a 25 square foot replacement cartridge for Jacuzzi Whirlpool Bath front-load skim filters, replacing OEM part numbers 6199000 and 43-2954-01-R. It carries 100 pleats in a compact 5-11/16″ body, with a closed top cap fitted with a string pull loop and a 2-1/8″ open bottom.

A whirlpool bath filter does a different job from a hot tub filter, and understanding the difference is the key to getting good life out of this cartridge. A hot tub holds the same water for months. Its filter runs continuously against water that is chemically managed the entire time, so oils and organics are being broken down by sanitizer around the clock. A whirlpool bath is filled fresh, used, and drained. There is no sanitizer, no circulation between baths, and no water chemistry to manage at all.

What that filter does face is far more concentrated. Bubble bath, bath oils, bath salts, soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion all go straight into the water at full strength and pass directly through the media during the few minutes the jets run. Nothing dilutes them over time and nothing chemically breaks them down. Those products coat polyester fibers rather than simply lodging in them, which is why a bath filter can lose flow surprisingly quickly compared to a spa cartridge of similar size — and why service life here is measured in number of baths rather than calendar months.

The upside is that the same cartridge is genuinely easy to maintain, because there is no chemistry to work around. A rinse under the tap after product-heavy baths does most of the work. Construction is Unicel’s standard 3 oz Reemay polyester — one hundred percent spunbonded polyester over a solid molded core with chemical-resistant end caps, built to an exact OEM fit. Made in the USA by Meissner Manufacturing, with more than 45 years behind the Unicel name.

Pro Tip: Rinse the cartridge after any bath with bubble bath, bath oil, or bath bombs in it — not on a monthly schedule, but that same day. Surfactants and oils are still liquid and loose while they are fresh, and thirty seconds under a warm tap will carry most of them out of the pleats. Once they cool and set on the fibers they turn waxy and stubborn, and no amount of rinsing later will remove what a quick pass would have taken care of immediately. This one habit does more for the life of a bath filter than anything else you can do.
