The Unicel C-7465 is a 65 square foot replacement cartridge for Sundance spas fitted with a 1-1/2″ system, replacing OEM part number 6540-480. It carries 164 pleats across a wide 7-1/2″ body, with a closed castle top — a sealed end cap with a crenellated, notched rim — and an open 2-1/16″ bottom that seats over the suction fitting.
That 2-1/16″ bottom opening is the single most important number on this page, because it is the only thing separating this cartridge from its near-twin. Sundance built the same 65 square foot filter in two versions to suit two different plumbing sizes. Both share the same capacity, the same 164-pleat count, the same 7-1/2″ diameter, the same 14-3/4″ length, the same 3 oz media, and the same castle top. They are visually indistinguishable. Only the bottom opening differs — and the OEM part numbers differ by a single digit, which is exactly how people end up with the wrong one.
This particular cartridge is also a piece of spa history. The 1-1/2″ system was used on Sundance spas built between roughly 1985 and 1990 — Cabaret, Cameo, Liberty, Los Cabos, Mardi Gras, Marin, Royale, Supra, and Supra Lounger. If you are shopping for this filter, you are keeping a spa going that is now well past thirty years old, and doing it with a cartridge built to the original specification rather than a compromise.
Underneath, this is standard Unicel construction: 3 oz Reemay polyester media over a solid molded core, with chemical-resistant end caps machined to an exact OEM fit. Made in the USA by Meissner Manufacturing, with more than 45 years behind the Unicel name.
Pro Tip — measure the bottom opening before you order. It is the only thing that matters here. Sundance made two versions of this 65 square foot filter: this one with a 2-1/16″ bottom for 1-1/2″ systems, and another with a 2-5/8″ bottom for 2″ systems. Everything else about the two is identical — same capacity, same pleat count, same diameter, same length, same castle top. The OEM numbers are 6540-480 and 6540-481, one digit apart, and every aftermarket cross-reference follows the same one-digit pattern. Put a tape measure across the inside of your old cartridge’s bottom opening. That single measurement settles it, and it is far more reliable than reading a worn part number.
